First Aid Refresher

2hrs shorter than the Foundation First Aid course - First Aid Refresher is just that, a course to refresh
a learner’s knowledge. As such, there is no specific assessments. However, learners will be observed
completing some practical scenarios in CPR, choking, traumatic injuries and medical emergencies.
Learners are expected to fully participate in every aspect of the course. This can include practical
scenarios, group discussions or tabletop exercises.

• Meets WorkSafe NZ requirements for first aid training.

NZ First Aid Cert is a 12hr course that covers the NZQA unit standards 6401, 6402 and 6400. This
course is held over 1.5 days for general courses or 2 school days for schools.
In addition, this course has further focus on managing first aid in emergency situations. There is
some teaching focused on Anaphylaxis, managing multiple patients, head injuries, environmental
conditions (hyper and hypothermia), spinal injuries, and eye injuries.
This course includes all course content from the Provide Basic Life Support and Foundation First Aid
courses. Learners must demonstrate their knowledge of managing first aid in emergencies, by managing 1
situation with 2 patients and the help of 1 bystander.

All assessments are scenario based.

Provide Basic Life Support

Basic Life Support is a 4hr course based on NZQA unit standard 6402 requirements.
This course is the most basic and focuses on CPR, choking and controlling life-threatening bleeding.
All learners will be assessed on CPR for adults or children and infants, choking for adults or children
and infants and controlling of severe bleeding and treatment of shock. All assessments are scenario
based where learners must demonstrate their knowledge.

• Eligible for NZQA unit standards 6402.
• Meets WorkSafe NZ requirements for first aid training.
• It will give you a Basic Life Support certificate that is valid for 2 years

People credited with this unit standard are able to: provide basic life support, manage a foreign body airway obstruction, manage first aid for life threatening bleeding, and provide first aid management for a
person in shock.

Foundation First Aid

This 1 day first aid course is ideal for anyone wanting to learn the basics of first aid.
This course includes all course content from the Provide Basic Life Support course and covers the
NZQA unit standards 6401 and 6402. This course has a further focus on providing first aid for traumatic
injuries (burns, fractures, dislocations, soft tissue injuries and poisoning) and medical emergencies
(heart attacks, diabetic emergency, asthma attack, seizure and stroke).

In addition, for ITS courses an awareness of Anaphylaxis is also taught on this course

• It will give you a Foundation First Aid certificate that is valid for 2 years
